School of Open Learning, Hong Kong Metropolitan University

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) was founded in 1989. It is one of the third group of universities approved to confer degrees, and one of 9 public universities qualified for comprehensive academic self-evaluations by the government of the Hong Kong SAR. Formerly known as the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK), it changed its name in September 2021. The HKMU has developed rapidly in both size and quality. In 2001, the OUHK began to offer full-time courses taught face-to-face in addition to part-time distance-learning programmes. After more than 30 years of development, the HKMU is now able to provide undergraduate and graduate programmes covering a broad range of majors. In a city of 7.5 million people, the university has about 10,000 full-time students and about 9,000 part-time or distance-learning students now.
